William Kent Wigington, age 67, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away leaving behind more stories, laughter, and fishing tales than could ever fit in print.
Born November 7, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas, to Vance and Sylvia Wigington, Kent lived most of his life in Topeka, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, and adventures.
Though his career was officially in sales, Kent's true work was people. He had an unmatched gift for connection—always more interested in helping others grow their businesses, friendships, or outlook on life than in chasing his own gain. He could turn strangers into friends before the end of a conversation, usually by slipping in a quick joke that would catch everyone off guard.
When Kent wasn't "networking," he was doing what he loved best: hunting and fishing. Truth be told, he probably spent more hours in the woods and on the water than at any desk. He had an uncanny ability to track down the best fishing hole or hunting spot, and an unmatched gift for turning every outing into a story worth retelling.
Kent never entered a room quietly. He carried with him an infectious charm, quick wit, and a knack for lightning at any moment. He was the kind of man who could liven up a gathering with a single line, and those who knew him will carry his laughter in their hearts forever.
Kent is survived by his son, Bill Wigington, and his granddaughters, Veronnica and Charlotte Wigington, along with countless friends and extended family who claim him as their own. To say he will be missed is an understatement—but to have known him at all is to be forever blessed by his spirit.
His final resting place is in Topeka; the community he called home for most of his life. In true Kent fashion, he wouldn't want tears to be the last word. Instead, he'd probably ask everyone to swap a story, tell a joke, and maybe even sneak away to cast a line or watch the sunrise from a duck blind in his honor.
Per Kent's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in Topeka near his birthday in November. True to his style, it will be a party—with live music, good food, and plenty of cheer—just the way he wanted his family and friends to remember him.
