William Arthur "Art" Stone II 1955 - 2023 Never was one to back down from a fight and that is exactly what he did with determination and strength for many years through a battle with health issues and pancreatic cancer. In the face of life's challenges, he confronted them as he did with life, head-on with courage. True to his nature Art rarely complained, he will be remembered as "one tough sum b****."
Born on November 9, 1955, in Baltimore, MD, Art made Auburn, KS his home for the majority of his life. He attended Shawnee Heights High School before embarking on a fulfilling career as a self-employed HVAC contractor. Art was clever and full of knowledge gained through his life experiences; Heating and Air, Tree Farmer, Restaurant Owner, and Entrepreneur, to name a few. His son, Colton, affectionately remembers him as someone who "Loved the Adventure of Life." An incredibly hard-working and creative person, there was nothing Art couldn't fix or build. He found joy in exploring the great outdoors and was an avid adventure seeker, relishing boating, camping, road trips, woodworking, and thrilling rides at the dunes. Beyond his skills and accomplishments, Art will be remembered for his witty humor, generous heart, and intelligence. He had a passion for imparting his wisdom and skills to his beloved family and friends. There was always a lesson and a moral to be learned just as his favorite Western, Gunsmoke often showcased. While strong-willed and stubborn on occasion, memories of his cherished adventures, from exhilarating ATV rides-mudding, constructing ATV trails and ramps, sledding in satellite dishes, zip lines, and trips to the dunes, paint a vivid picture of the vibrant soul he was.
Art leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by his wife, Jennifer Stone, and his children: Colton Stone (Alex), stepdaughter Samantha Meseke (Darrin), Shaun Stone (Angela), and Tina Harrington. He also leaves behind his brother, Daniel Stone, and sisters Sheran Peery, Bonita Corbin, Caroline Allen (Vic), and Diana DeBoard. Among his closest companions was his loyal dog, Shadow. Art was preceded in death by his parents, William A. "Pete" Stone and Wilma Amelia Stone, and his brother, Levi Boettler.
On July 20, 2023, God called Art home, and he gracefully shed his earthly pain with dignity and strength. Now, he finds solace in the exhilarating rides of heaven's dunes, joining the company of loved ones who have gone before him. Art's absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but his memory will forever be cherished.
