William Robert Salsbury, Opa or Ol' Sal, to some, passed away on May 10th, 2022 at his home
in Lecompton, Kansas at the age of 93. He was married to Marian (Bahm) Salsbury, Oma, on
May 13th, 1949, they shared 64 years of marriage together.
He was born May 10th, 1929 in LeRoy, Kansas. (Yes, he came into this world and left on the
same date!) He was preceded in death by his wife Marian, mother Juanita D (Donnell)
Salsbury, father William R Salsbury Sr., and brother Bud L Salsbury.
Bill was self employed in the construction industry for most of his career. He served in the US
Army during World War II and the Korean War, and was employed by the VA hospital as a
nurse. He was a very skilled craftsman, and he applied his talents to many hobbies, including
woodworking, horticulture, art and music. He was also an amazing chef, and referenced the
day that he would go to cook 'In the big kitchen in the sky!' Bill will be remembered for his
creativity, witty sense of humor, and being the best neighbor.
He is survived by his one son Douglas Salsbury, grandchildren Nathan Salsbury and Chelsea
Vanderpool, and 6 great grandchildren Broderick Salsbury, Bernadette Salsbury, Cecilia
Salsbury, Dayton Vanderpool, Ashlyn Vanderpool and Trystan Vanderpool, and his Sister
Bonnie Harbour.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of your choice
