William "Bill" Douglas Gearhart, 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away at Midland Care Hospice House surrounded by his family on October 1, 2016.
Bill is survived by his sons William Gearhart Jr., Stephen Gearhart and Shannon Gearhart; grandchildren Zachary, Samantha, Jordan and Drake; his brother Leland Gearhart and sister JoAnn Bleske, as well as his nieces and nephews. Bill was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all.
Bill served as a Sergeant in the 5th Armored Division of the U.S. Army from 1951-54 as part of the Occupation force in Germany. After leaving the Army, Bill went to work for JLA Ranch in Maple Hill as a ranch foreman for several years before moving to Topeka. Bill spent many years working at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley in a managerial capacity. Bill was well known in the Topeka area and always had a smile, a kind word or a helping hand for those who needed it. Bill enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and golf as hobbies. In his younger years he could be found many afternoons fishing with his sons on the lakes and ponds in and around Topeka.
Bill will be laid to rest at the Topeka Cemetery in Topeka, KS in a private family ceremony.
