William "Billy" Cornely, 60, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. He was born February 21, 1961, at Forbes Air Force Base, in Topeka, KS, the son of William Sr. and Lois Taylor Cornely.
Billy graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1979. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served our country for more than 10 years as an Antenna Systems Installation/Maintenance Specialist, both domestic and abroad. His awards of medals, badges, and ribbons include a National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. After retiring from the military, Billy worked for the Veteran's Administration in Leavenworth, KS.
"Bro Bill" or "Uncle Billy" as he was lovingly called by his family, enjoyed fishing, good music and food, and a cold beer. He enjoyed life and never took himself too seriously. He loved his family and friends, but also appreciated his personal space.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Lois Taylor Cornely; two sisters, Roberta and Angela Cornely. Survivors include an aunt, Idella Bowens, Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Eunice Cornely , Kansas City, MO, and Andrea Cornely Gilchrist (Elvin), Topeka, KS; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Cornely (Crystal), Topeka, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, Ne'Tasha, Candice, Yvette, Alisha, Mercedes, Rosetta, Robert Jr., Caleb, Zeylona, Malachi, Honesti, Myracle, Amore, Cornely and Wright families.
A military homegoing service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., with full military honors.
