Wayne Ray "Pete" Moore

Wayne Ray “Pete” Moore, 74, of Harveyville, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Pete was born on August 9, 1951, in Topeka, Kansas, to Charlie Wilson Moore and Edna Irene (Faust) Moore. He grew up on a farm in the rural Overbrook area. He started his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Shawnee Heights High School Class of 1971.

Pete proudly served his country in the 190th Air National Guard from 1971 to 1977, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He began a career at Goodyear in 1973, where he worked faithfully for 37 years before retiring. His strong work ethic, integrity, and willingness to help others were evident throughout his life.

On August 17, 1974, Pete married the love of his life, Carolyn Neva Winsor. Their story began with a blind date, and after only four months they knew they had found forever. They built a beautiful life together, sharing 52 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, faithfulness, and friendship.

Pete and Carolyn made their home on their peaceful rural property near Harveyville, Kansas. He loved country living, where there was always something that needed fixing. Whether it was maintaining the property, household repairs, or grandkids projects that seemed impossible, Pete was the one everyone counted on. He had MacGyver skills and could fix anything.

Pete’s greatest accomplishment in life was not found in his career or the many things he built and repaired but it was the family he loved so completely. He was a devoted husband, an incredible father, a proud grandfather, and a man whose kindness, compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering love made everyone around him feel safe and loved. To his family, he was simply Superman.

Being a father to three daughters was one of Pete’s greatest joys. He was endlessly supportive, always present, and never too busy to help, encourage, or simply listen. His love only grew when he became Grandpa. His five grandchildren brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. From never missing ball games to always winning card games, he treasured every moment spent with them.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his daughters, Stacey Herrick; Christina Frye (Kelly Coley); Deborah Punches (Bryon); and his cherished grandchildren, Blake Herrick, Paige Frye, Emily Punches, Taylor Frye, and Brandon Punches.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Edna Moore, and his siblings Dale Moore, Shirley Rooker, Jeannie Matney, Larry Moore, Duane “Butch” Moore, and Leita Swift.

Pete was the steady foundation of his family—a man whose actions spoke louder than words, whose big, calloused hands were rarely still, and whose heart was always open. His legacy will live on through the family he raised, the lessons he taught, the love he gave so freely, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
