Walter Joseph Scheck, known affectionately to many as Walt or Wally, passed away on July 30, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on June 19, 1941, in St. Peter, KS to Frank and Eva (Richmeier) Scheck, Walt's journey came to an end at home in Paxico, Kansas, surrounded by the love of his family.
Walt graduated from Topeka High School in 1959. He married Nancy Staerkel on August 27, 1960.
Walt worked for many years at Standard-Hart printing in Topeka as a pressman. He later was employed as a production foreman for M & W Gear/Grazer Mowers in Maple Hill and finished out his work life as the owner of AAA Pawn and Gun Shop in Topeka. He was an avid coyote hunter who made many friends over the course of his life. His other interests included gun collecting and World War II history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, William Scheck, Vincent Scheck, Andy Scheck, and Gerald Scheck, three sisters, Edna Dye, Clarice Perry, and Kathleen Halstead as well as his cherished grandson Matthew Figgs.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Scheck, children Julie (Glen) Yancey, Jamie (George) Welch, and Jason Scheck as well as a brother, Frank Scheck and sisters Lillian Kennedy and Carol McGinnis.
Cremation has occurred. A visitation followed by a dinner for family will be held at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 8. In honor of Walt's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Interim HealthCare of Topeka sent in care of Midwest Cremation Inc., 525 SE 37th St., Topeka, KS 66605.
