Vinola Hines, affectionately known to all as "Pie", 93, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Tuesday April 24th at Midland Hospice with her family and dear friend by her side.
Vinola was born May 24th, 1924, to Paul L. Hines and Anna S. Stewart Casey in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Kansas City, Mo. Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School. She later attended and graduated from The Topeka Public School of Practical Nursing in 1965. Vinola worked at The School for the Blind and was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Memorial Hospital in Topeka for 24 years. Vinola had a very infectious laugh and her passion in life was her beloved family. She especially loved her grandchildren and cherished every minute of life she was able to share with them. Vinola had many dear and cherished friends that she treated and loved as her family.
Vinola is survived by her children, Paula Greer, Kansas City, Mo., Lewis E. Greer, Kansas City, Mo., Ron Hines and Samuel (Sara) Patton, Salina, Kansas, Andre Bell. Grandchildren, Shawn Patton, Xavier Burnette, Ashton Patton, Jericho Wilson, Sheronda Patton, LaQuisha Patton, Rassan Hines and Cody Hines, 17 Great-Grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Vinola is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Clifton Hines, Luther Hines, Robert Hines, Irene Hines and Lillie Lenoir.
In leu of a service Vinola request this of all of us that knew and loved her: "Visit the sick, shut-in and elderly. Feed the hungry, say a prayer for World Peace. Sing no sad songs for me, love and enjoy family and friends. We are here only a short while, so please Love One Another. Love you all…Pie."
Vinola's fondest memories are of watching her Grandchildren grow to amazing young adults and her many dear close friends, (most have preceded her in death). She especially wanted to remember Miss Pauline Johnson's companionship and Love over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family request gifts be made to Midland Hospice Care of Topeka. The family wishes to give special Blessings to the amazing loving, caring Midland Hospice staff. The family is planning a Home Going Celebration of Her Life in May.
