Victor "Lance" McKee

August 2, 1942 - August 14, 2024

Lance McKee, 82, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of August 14th, 2024, after a battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by his loving family.

Lance was born on August 2nd, 1942, in Colby, Kansas, to Victor I. and Ruby McKee. Shortly after his birth, the McKee family moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Lance would spend the remainder of his life.

Lance attended Topeka High School and later continued his education at Washburn University. He proudly served as a medic in the Army Reserves. After his service, Lance began his 30-year career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, eventually retiring from the company. Retirement, however, didn't slow him down—Lance found a new passion working at Ed Bozarth, where he dedicated many years, a role he often considered more of a "hobby" than a job.

As a young man, Lance was a Boy Scout and earned the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout. Throughout his life, he remained an avid hobbyist, enjoying hunting, fishing, ham radio, tennis, golfing, and competing in triathlons and marathons. Lance was also a "road atlas master," known for his keen navigation skills.

Lance was preceded in death by his parents, Victor I. and Ruby McKee; his sister, Karen Falley; his brother, Michael McKee; and his granddaughter, Madison Kuenzi.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Karen McKee, and his four children: Stacy (Matthew) Peterson, Amy McKee, Kristy (Jason) Kuenzi, and Blake McKee. Lance was a proud grandfather to Cole, Haylie, Nathan (Janae), Hope, and Faith Kuenzi, Spencer and Cooper McKee, and Molly Peterson.

Lance and Karen shared a wonderful life together, filled with love, companionship, and many cherished pets, including his beloved dog Maddie and cat Peanut.

Lance was known and loved by many. No matter where he went, even as far as Canada, he would always run into someone he knew. His warm presence and the respect he commanded will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family welcomes you to join in celebrating Lance's life at his memorial service, which will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Mission Hill Church, 7627 SW 17th St., Topeka, KS 66615.

In lieu of contributions, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or Helping Hands Humane Society to honor Lance.
