Vernon Thomas "Uncle Monk" Johnson

March 5, 1946 — January 29, 2024

Good evening. As we gather our thoughts at the close of the day, we come together to

remember and celebrate the life of Vernon Johnson, a beloved member of our community who

passed away in Topeka, Kansas, on January 29th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Vernon, a cherished soul known for his loving nature, wisdom, and courage, was born on March

5th, 1946, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Andrew T. Johnson and Lee Ella (Abraham) Johnson, both

of whom preceded him in death, as did his wife Wilma Johnson, his sister LuRenda Harvey, and

his brother Alfred Johnson.

Vernon's early years were spent in the town of his birth, where he attended Sapulpa High

School, laying the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. After his

graduation, he began a commendable career spanning 30 years at Goodwill, where he not only

served with distinction but also formed lasting relationships and associations that enriched his

life and the lives of those around him.

The essence of Vernon's life was the joy he found in simple pleasures. He was a man who loved

to spend quality time with his family and friends, working on cars, riding his bicycles, and fishing.

These hobbies were not just pastimes for Vernon; they were the threads that wove the fabric of

his connection with loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, survived by his daughters Robin (Williams)

Brown and Teresa Flippin, his dear sister Minnie Pearl, as well as a host of grandchildren and

great-grandchildren who were the light of his life. Each family gathering was brightened by

Vernon's presence, his stories, and the wisdom he shared.

Vernon's family remembers him as the pillar of their lives, a man who, despite the challenges he

faced, always remained courageous. His resilience in the face of adversity and his unwavering

support for his loved ones are qualities that will continue to inspire his family and all who knew

him.

As we bid farewell to Vernon Johnson, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey marked by

compassion, dedication, and the will to make the most of every moment. Vernon's memory will

live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with

him.

In remembrance of Vernon, let us hold close the values he embodied and the warm memories

he gave us. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to guide us like a beacon of

love and strength. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who grieve this

profound loss.

Vernon Johnson's life story is a testament to the impact one individual can have on so many. As

we honor his memory, let us carry forward the lessons he taught us through his example: to

cherish our loved ones, to face life's challenges with bravery, and to find joy in the simple things.

Rest in peace, Uncle Monk. Your legacy will not be forgotten.
