Valerie L. Steavenson

Valerie L. Steavenson, Hiebert (Val). Age 59. Born in Hillsboro, Kansas on September 29th, 1958. She resided in Reading Kansas most of her life. Val passed at her home in Reading Kansas on May 19, 2018 of Cancer. She preceded in death by her father Hugo Hiebert and Lola Hiebert of Hillsboro Kansas. Val married Jon Steavenson, December 18, 1993. They were together a total of 27 years. Survivors included Valerie's daughter Crystal Marlar with grandkids MaKayla McCray and Mikkel McCray; great grandkids Ella and Ivory Marlar. Her son Shane Marlar with grandkids Skylar Marlar, Teagen Marlar, and Paisley Marlar. Sibling included Matthew Hiebert of Hillsboro; his wife Francine and their son Jaden Hiebert.

Valerie graduated from Kansas State University and Cosmetology College in Manhattan Kansas. She worked as a Cosmetologist in Emporia Kansas for over 40 years. Val was a part of the Emporia Eagles Auxiliary 2587, Emporia Regional Quilters Guild, donated and participated in many volunteer programs and projects for the Emporia area. Her hobbies were not limited to cooking, canning, planting, cultivation or harvesting. Val loved going to the Farmers Market. She had many friends that enjoyed her education and thoughts on her daily life skills. Val was loved by so many!

Family and friends are welcome to come to Val's celebration of life on Sunday June 24th at noon. It will be held at Hammond Park in Emporia Kansas; located at 1636 State Street at the Kiwanis Shelter area. The celebration will include a potluck lunch, balloon release and shared memories of Val's beautiful soul!
