Troy Dale Powell, known to all as Troy, was a man who lived life with the spirit of a cowboy. Born on March 2, 1946, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, he rode off into the sunset on August 19, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Troy was a graduate of Palo Duro High School, class of 1964, and continued his education at Amarillo College and Midwestern State, focusing on Law Enforcement and Public Administration. He was a proud veteran of the Navy and carried that discipline into a successful career in law enforcement. His dedication to serving and protecting was rivaled only by his love of family and friends.
Troy was a man of many interests. He loved horses and his Ferris mower, was a fan of John Wayne, loved learning about the history of the American West and researching his family tree. His friendly, funny, and kind nature made him a favorite among friends and family.
Troy is survived by his son, Gary Powell of Manhattan, KS; two daughters, Kelly Powell Beaurain of Chicago, IL; Sara Powell Ables and Husband Wayne of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren, Lily and Bennet Beaurain, of Chicago, IL; Blake and Vance Powell, of Greenwood, SC, Aleese Harvey, of New Caney, TX and one great-grandson, Jaxon Powell of Greenwood, SC. He was also brother to Alan of Topeka, KS, Ted of Lubbock, TX, and Craig of Amarillo, TX, as well as an uncle to Anjanette Powell Tolman and Cory Powell of Overland Park, KS; Jennifer Powell Killough and Christopher Powell of Lubbock, TX.
In the end, Troy Powell was a man who lived life on his own terms, with a joke in his heart and a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him. Here's to Troy, a man who taught us all the importance of laughter, love, and a good shot of whiskey. May his memory continue to bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts.
A celebration of Troy's life will be held on Friday, September 22nd in Topeka, KS at a time and location to be announced soon."
