Suzanne Marie Sawyer-Burris

Suzanne Marie Sawyer-Burris, 57, passed away on August 8, 2021 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas due to injuries sustained in an accident while visiting family and friends in Dodge City, Kansas.

She was born March 20, 1964 in Newton, Kansas to Norman and Gail (Meyer) Sawyer.

Suzanne graduated from Topeka West High School in 1982.  She graduated from Meyer Beauty School of St Louis, Missouri in Cosmetology and attended Washburn University where she earned a bachelor's degree in business.

Suzanne currently worked for Edward Jones Investments with George Scharff and in Affinity Salon.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and had a passion for playing cello, road and gravel cycling, and running.  She enjoyed gardening and creating her backyard into her sanctuary for herself, family, birds, butterflies, and the family dogs. She inherited her father's passion for scrabble and always had several games in progress on-line with family and friends.

Suzanne was a very generous and giving person and as a final act of kindness she gave the gift of life to others through organ and tissue donation.

She is survived by her husband Doug Burris of Topeka; children Savannah Burgoon, Brian Burgoon, Jacob Burris and Rylee Burris all of Topeka; mother Gail Sawyer of Topeka; sisters Becky Lee of Wyoming, Deborah (Todd) Blake of Michigan, and Barbara (Jeremy) Hoppas of Olathe; grandchildren Alexandra and Ian Johnson and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Sawyer; grandparents, Raymond and Stella Meyer and Vardiman and Hilda Sawyer.

A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Shawnee Lake Shelter #4.  The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to MS Run-the-US Organization
