Born 18 August, 1939 in Montague County, Texas; Sue’s family moved to the Los Angeles, California area in her early years, where she graduated from Antelope Valley Joint Union High School, class of 1957. She married Donald Ora Van Zandt, and in 1960 had her only child, her daughter Cheryl. After Sue & Donald divorced, she moved to the Los Angeles area, working as a secretary and finally an Office Manager. She was very active with the United Republicans of California. In 1970, Sue married Richard Dovey, whom she loved until her last breath. They made a home in Agoura, California. Upon their retirement in 1984, they sold their home and Sue and Dick traveled extensively through Mexico and spent more than a year driving around Europe, signed on as as floating managers for Motel 6, finally settling down in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Sue was enchanted by the beautiful Sandia Mountains. After his diagnosis with Lewy Body Dementia, Sue cared for Dick at home until his death in 1999. In 2019, Sue moved to Manhattan, Kansas to be nearer to Cheryl and her family.
Sue lived her life on her own terms; she loved to travel, was a self-proclaimed “Foodie,” enjoyed exotic foods and collected cookbooks. She was a proud woman, who was always there to help those she loved.
