Steven Michael Shelton, 68, of Reading, Kansas, passed on June 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Steven was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in September of 2021.

Steven was born on April 14, 1955, in Fredonia, Kansas. Steven is preceded in death by his mother, Jane King. Steven is survived by his wife, Missy Bane-Shelton and their three children, Roberto Coney, Amarin Shelton and Mariah Shelton. He was a loving husband and dad. Steven is also survived by his siblings, Randy Shelton (Wichita, KS), Donna Shelton-Dean (Independence, KS) and Rodney and (Sheri) Shelton (Fredonia, KS).

Steven was a 1973 graduate of Fredonia High School. Steven's strong work ethic started at a young age painting fences and hauling hay and working at the local grocery store in Fredonia. After graduation, Steven worked as a mill operator at ADM, eventually leaving and working for Midwest Tank repainting and providing maintenance of water towers. Steven's longest and final employment was at Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Cooperation.

Steven was always mechanically minded and loved working on and rebuilding vehicles. It was not uncommon for Steven to have several projects at one time. When Steven's garage doors were open it was an informal invitation for family and friends to stop and visit. Steven took pride in designing and assisting with building the family home in Reading, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation is planned for Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 1-3, at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SOS, Inc. of Emporia, Kansas or the Humane Society of the Flint Hills.
