Sibyl Jeannette York-Mauk, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully in Lawrence, Kansas, on May 1st, 2024, at the age of 101.
She was born Sibyl Jeannette York on April 24th, 1923, to Frank Hamilton York and Cora Edith Johnson-York in Ashland, Kansas, the youngest of seven children. She attended Sitka Elementary schools and graduated from Ashland High School in the class of 1941. She attended college at Fort Hays State University and at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
After college, Sibyl moved to Wichita, Kansas. She worked at Beech Aircraft, the Internal Revenue Service, and Wichita Public Schools. On July 21st, 1946, she married Harvey Roy Mauk in Wichita, where they resided for the next 51 years until Harvey's passing in 1997. Sibyl then spent time living with her elder sister Ruth and her daughter Floy. She spent her remaining months in Lawrence, Kansas to be near her granddaughter Christina.
Sibyl loved to travel, and she had many wonderful adventures around the world with Harvey, Ruth, Floy, and Christina. She was also passionate about collecting art, gardening, and classic movies.
Sibyl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings Frances Randall, Mildred Snyder, Doris Dove, John York, Russell York, and Esther "Ruth" York; and her children David Reese, Diane Jeannette, and Floy Kathleen.
She is survived by her granddaughter Christina Elizabeth Penn, and countless nieces and nephews.
