Shirley June Schmidt, 77, of Topeka, passed away on November 30, 2016, following a battle with cancer.
She was born on June 8, 1939, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Charley and Venona Moore. She married Harry Edward Schmidt on February 16, 1957, in Beardstown, Illinois.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Betty Cremer and Marilyn Hay, and her brother Charles Moore.
Survivors include her husband Harry; her children Sheryl Lynn (Arthur Gagnon), Ronald Wayne (Cynthia Reeb), Sandra Lea (Ernest (Bud) Rich), and Sheila Kay (Bernard Krause); her siblings Dennis Moore (Dorothy), Franklin (Billy) Moore (Donna), Bonnie Durell (Donald), and Sharon Busby (Clarence); 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a kind, generous, and loving person. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She will be missed, but we know she is in heaven reconnecting with her dad, teasing her brother, and playing Bingo with her mom and sisters.
A celebration of life will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 416 SE Liberty Street, Topeka. Friends and family are encouraged to stop by throughout the day.
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at Stormont-Vail Cancer Center for their care during Shirley's battle with cancer, and to Grace Hospice for their assistance during her last months. We also wish to extend thanks to Shirley's church, family, and friends for all their prayers and support.
