Shawn "Blueyez" Alexander, 39, of Topeka, passed away after more than a 7-year heroic fought battle with cancer and the effects from a donor stem cell transplant the morning of Sunday, February 16, 2020. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Shawn was born April 17, 1980, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Bonnie (Davidson) Ross (Topeka) and Benjamin Alexander, Jr. (Branson, Mo). Shawn was raised to be the fantastic man he was by his mother, Bonnie, and she later married his stepfather, Walter Ross, who was an influence as well.
He enjoyed being sociable and was always the life of the party, anywhere he went. Shawn enjoyed attending live concerts, visiting art museums, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and watching Hulu and Netflix. He especially loved to watch anything with any kind of drama.
Shawn was a graduate of the 1998 class of Topeka High School and later attended Washburn University and Allen Community College. His entire life he was a born leader and spent his adult career working primarily as General Management for various companies where he met and impacted so many people throughout the years.
Survivors include his significant other, Tim Swenson (Topeka), his mother, Bonnie Ross (Topeka), his father, Benjamin Alexander, Jr, and Allie (Branson, Mo), his brother, Ben Alexander (Topeka), three nieces (Hannah Alexander, Ashley Alexander, and Arraya Alexander), one nephew (Cameron Alexander), one great-niece (Nevaeh Williams), another great-niece due in May, and many other loving family members. He was proceeded in death by his stepfather, Walter Ross and grandparents, Donald and Mildred Davidson and Benjamin (Sr.) and June "Nanny" Alexander.
A celebration of life is planned for February 29, 2020, from 2-6pm at Garfield Park Shelter House, 1600 NE Quincy St., in Topeka. Shawn's end of life wishes were cremation, which were honored by his family. We are requesting any donations be made in memory of Shawn, go towards his end of life expenses and beyond. A GoFundMe has been set up or you may contact the family directly.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the kind words in remembering him, the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Kansas City for providing more than 100 days of shelter throughout his cancer battles, and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for the terrific care we received during our short time back in Topeka after Shawn was told there were no long-term solutions to his illness. Trust and believe he never gave up his fight or lost his spunky feisty demeanor and we know you will miss Shawn just as we do. He wants each and every one of us to continue living life thankful and grateful in his honor.
