Sharon Jean Painter, affectionately known as "Wheez" passed away on December 14, 2024, at home. Born on September 23,1938 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late Rita Blake and Michael Harley Painter. Sharon was raised by her mother and her adoring grandmother and spent summers at Maple Lake, which was a private lake developed by her grandfather near Clarksburg. It was there that she developed a love for swimming and was always drawn to the water.
After graduation from Business School, Sharon moved to Washington, DC and worked at the Federal Aviation Administration. In the mid-sixties life brought her to Topeka. She worked at the VA as a secretary to the Director of Nursing Education and retired from that position in 1997 after 34 years.
Sharon enjoyed traveling, hot air balloons, the sun on her face and the wind in her hair. She was a devoted, loving friend. She had a big heart, and many times was the unknown benefactor helping those around her.
Sharon is survived by a daughter Kimberly Jeanne McNicholas of Sequim, WA and many longtime friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother "EB" who was a Jesuit Priest.
Sharon was a devout Catholic and found strength in her faith. Services will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Mt Calvary Holy Trinity Mausoleum.
