April 29, 1943 — November 10, 2024

Serena Ann Holston, 81 passed away November 10, 2024, at McCrite Plaza in Topeka Kansas after a long illness caused by multiple strokes. She was born Cecilia Irene Owens on April 29, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas to Henrietta Bertha Owens. In March 1945 she was lovingly adopted by Loren and Margaret (Hatteburg) Clark.

Serena graduated from Topeka High School in 1961 and attended Emporia State University and Washburn University, ultimately achieving her master's degree in education from Emporia State.

Serena married Glen Roscoe Holston on September 21,1962, in Topeka. She started her teaching career at Silver Lake Grade School in the early 1970's where she taught 5th grade until she retired. She received as much tremendous joy from teaching as she gave. Her vibrant personality shined through in her contagious smile, love of bright colors, amazing ability to cook and bake, love of Christ, and in her infatuation with Justin Bieber. She fiercely loved her family.

An enormous hole is left in the hearts of her husband Glen of Topeka, son Brett Holston, (Kristie) of Topeka, daughter Lisa McGarity (Pat) of Topeka, granddaughter Amanda Hill (Brian) of Tecumseh, grandson Sam Holston and his fiancé Morgan Simmonds of Topeka grandson Jake Holston (Shania) of Netawaka, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a biological brother she never got the chance to meet, Tommy Ray Marion.

Serena chose cremation. A memorial headstone is planned for placement in Valley Falls Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka KS, 66606 or Elmont Untied Methodist Church,6635 NW Church LN, Topeka KS,66618.
