Always in Our Hearts
Sandra 'Sandy' Kay Lemke, 77, of Topeka peacefully entered into the arms of Jesus on April 25th, 2023 surrounded by family.
She was born November 17, 1945, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Rosa Beers. She attended the Lawrence School District. Throughout her life she worked hard to support her family, by working multiple jobs. A few of her favorite jobs included being a Nurse's Aide at nursing homes (11 yrs), an Assistant Manager at Wendy's North (12 yrs), and the Leather and Drape Specialist at Scotch Fabric Care (42 yrs). She was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Topeka.
Sandy always loved and cared deeply for others. She wanted people to know that they had someone who they could count on to be there for them during the milestones and the ordinary moments. She was selfless with her time and material items, often saying if someone asked her for something, they must need it more than she did.
Sandy loved spending time with family and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always had a listening ear, words of encouragement, a warm smile, and an "I love you, Sweetheart" ready for you. She sang the best "Happy Birthday" songs to her loved ones every birthday. She had a love for travel (especially to Branson), all things Christmas, Hallmark movies, Elvis, going to the lake, taking a drive, and playing Skip-Bo.
She married Walter T. Winchell Sr. on June 15, 1962. They later divorced in 1988. She married Roger A. Lemke on September 16, 1994, in Topeka, KS. They spent many years together that were filled with love and joy. He preceded her in death in 2018.
Her legacy is survived by the people who held a special place in her heart, her son Walter Winchell Jr. of Topeka; son Charlie (Mary) Winchell of Topeka; daughter Tina Stevens of Topeka; daughter Jeannie (Sheon) Hansard of Topeka; daughter Christal (Keith) Chapman of Peculiar, MO; Jennifer (Donald) Siders of Paola, KS; son Steven Lemke of Wellsville, KS; sister Elizabeth Lee of Topeka; sister Brenda Eubanks of Eudora, KS; brother-in-law Keith (Donna) Lemke of Ames, NE; sister-in-law Julie (Marvin) White of Villisca, IA; sister-in-law Geanine Timme of Fremont, NE; sister-in-law Jeanille (Gerald) Gates of Wahoo, NE; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger A. Lemke, parents, sisters Beverly Beers and Terry Tatum, and grandson James Winchell.
The biggest desire of Sandy's heart was that her family and those she knew, let Jesus into their heart. She understood that Earth was not her forever home and wanted to share the joy of eternity in Heaven with those she loved.
"Let Jesus into your heart so that one day we will be together again" -Sandy Lemke
