Sandra Ruth Eversole Gallagher 1954-2018

On February 3, 2018, Sandy lost her long battle against cancer. She left this world without pain or suffering, her daughter by her side. Sandy moved to Manhattan, KS in September of 2016 to live with her daughter after she had a stroke. It was then she found she had lung cancer and began her fight yet again, having previously beaten oral cancer. Toward the end, the cancer spread to her spine, ribs, ovaries, and abdomen, and it was too much for her war-torn body to handle. She chose Hospice in January 2018 and her daughter cared for her in their home.

Sandy was born to Edwin and Ruth Eversole (both deceased) in Wiesbaden, Germany. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Carrie Whitworth and Keith Whitworth, her daughter Sharon Akeroyd Woolever, son and daughter in law Jeff and Debbi Akeroyd, grandchildren, Sydney and Jeremy Woolever, Garrett Akeroyd and Lauren Akeroyd Ward. She has two great-grandchildren, Blake and Heath Ward. She was loved by many nieces and nephews from the Eversole and Akeroyd families.

Sandy was raised with her brother Harry (recently deceased) and sister Carrie in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1972 and worked for the Bexar County courthouse and then Crain Distributing. She lived briefly in Oklahoma, and Korea before settling again in San Antonio. Sandy will always be remembered for her infectious smile and laughter, and her unwavering optimism, and courage. Her strength while battling cancer is what many will remember the most. She had an incredible love for animals, especially her Harley, Stretch, and Henry.Sandy was an avid supporter of our troops and a diehard Cowboys fan.

Services and a celebration of life will be held in San Antonio, Texas, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to her favorite charities- St. Judes and the ASPCA.
