Ruth Annette Winder

Ruth Annette (Evert) Winder was born on March 3, 1947 in her Grandparents' home in Elwood, KS, to Charles and Ruth (Mitchell) Evert. She was raised by Ruth and step- father Luther Hughes from 1956 in St. Joseph, MO, where she graduated from Central High School in 1966 and married William Earl Winder in Nov. 1966. They had 3 children (Cynthia Hempel, Elizabeth McGinnis and William Winder, JR) they were divorced in 1979.

After moving to Topeka, KS, in 1981, she worked for Payless Shoe Source for 22 years, was a member of the Seaman Congregational Church, taught Sunday school and volunteered with the Special Olympics. After retirement she worked for John Shamburg and 5 Diamonds Construction.

She was proceeded in death by her father Charles Evert, mother Ruth Hughes, step-father Luther Hughes, and granddaughter Rebecca Winder. She is survived by her children Cynthia Hempel, Elizabeth and Mikkel McGinnis, Billy and Michelle Winder, of Topeka, KS, brother Jimmie Hughes, sister Stephanie (Don) Rathmann of St. Joseph, MO, Grandchildren Melissa Hempel, Matthew Winder, Blake Winder, Mikkel McGinnis, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth passed away on January 14,2022 and was cremated.

Instead of flowers bring a covered dish to the memorial potluck dinner at Shawnee Lake and share memories (silly and serious) with my children and grandchildren. Celebration of life will take place at the Yacht Club at Lake Shawnee on May 28, 2022 from 11am-3pm.
