Ruth Jean Troth, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Dover, KS on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Ruth was born on March 23, 1934, in Iola, KS. She was the oldest of 5 children to her parents Vernon and Edith Thornbrugh. She attended high school at Horton High School in Horton, KS and graduated in 1952. While in high school she met the love of her life and best friend John Troth. In 1953 they were married.
That same year Ruth completed nurses' training. In 1957 she worked at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. From 1958 on, she was a homemaker where her and John raised 3 sons together, Rodney, Michael, and Brad.
Ruth and her husband enjoyed going dancing and ice skating together. She loved fishing and was fond of gardening and tending to her plants. She was a fantastic cook and baker, where chocolate chips cookies were among one of her specialties in which everyone loved.
Ruth is survived by her three sons, Rodney Troth of Lawrence, KS, Michael Troth of Topeka, KS, and Brad Troth of Topeka, KS; sister, Mary Davis of Hinkley, UT, brother, David Thornbrugh of Stratton, NB; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, and brothers Vernon and Steven Thornbrugh.
A graveside Memorial Service for family and friends will be held for both Ruth and John Troth on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Dover Cemetery at 10:30 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at their home from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
