Roy Schlodder

Roy Schlodder, 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 27, 2024, in his hometown of Holton, Kansas, the same place where he first began his journey on February 10, 1950. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the simple joys of life, such as fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.

Roy graduated from Holton High School in 1968 and soon after enlisted in the Army.

He underwent basic training at Fort Linwood, Missouri, and served in the United States Signal Corps in Augusta, Georgia, where he studied electronics. His military service took him to Korea, where he oversaw the communications of radio and telephone signal sites between Korea and the United States. Roy was honorably discharged from the Army in 1972.

On May 16, 1975, Roy married Carolyn J. Mick. Together, they raised a daughter, Heather Hundley (Matt), and a son, David Schlodder. Roy was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Abbigail, Addison, and Abbott Hundley.

Professionally, Roy was a respected electronic engineer at Jayhawk TV for 20 years, where his expertise and attention to detail were invaluable. He later spent 22 years as a Heavy Equipment Operating Engineer for Herrmans Excavating. His family, friends, and colleagues will remember him for his readiness to lend a hand, his profound knowledge of his craft, and his ability to engineer and repair all things.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Pearl, two brothers, Floyd and

Franklin; and a sister, Alberta (Jewell). Roy is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Mick); daughter, Heather Hundley (Matt), and grandchildren, Abbigail, Addison, and Abbott; and son, David Schlodder and two brothers Elmer (Gladys) Schlodder, and Dale Schlodder, and three sisters Pauline Laub, Caroline Page, and Alice (Bill) Anderson.

Roy found solace in the quiet patience of fishing, the satisfaction of tending to his garden, tinkering in his garage, and spending time in nature watching hummingbirds and eagles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post 44 and designated to go toward equipment for Home Health. Memorials can be mailed or dropped o at Denison State Bank, 421 New York, Avenue, Holton, KS 66436.

Roy Schlodder's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his influence and the love he shared will continue to resonate in the lives of those he touched. Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We take comfort in knowing that his life was well-lived, full of moments that mattered, and a love that will endure forever.
