Rose Mignon Rainey—known simply as "Mignon" to nearly everyone—was a rare soul who seemed to find beauty in everything and everyone. At 82 years old, she peacefully finished her life's race, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and unwavering love.
Mignon was born January 3, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Rose Walker and Walter Thurston. Over the years, she called both Los Angeles, California, and Topeka, Kansas, home. For the past 42 years, she shared her life with her devoted husband, Sanford "Pat" Rainey, who stood by her side through every season of life.
She was a loving mother to John Goldrich (Shelly), Rodney Roach (Yolanda), Rhonda Roach, and Patrice Hogan (Joel). Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Gabriella and Maddox Hogan, whose lives she filled with encouragement, laughter, and unconditional love.
Mignon's life changed forever on March 12, 1983, when she symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God through baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her greatest joy was teaching others about the Bible—a work she embraced as a regular pioneer for many years. Even when her health made things difficult, her focus was never on herself. She always asked, "What can I do to help?" and meant it with all her heart.
Those who knew Mignon will tell you she had a gift: she could find something precious in everyone. Her words were often sprinkled with encouragement, her laugh could brighten the darkest day, and her presence brought comfort to anyone blessed to know her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4230 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, Kansas.
Mignon's life was a beautiful example of selflessness, compassion, and deep faith—qualities that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
