Friends and loved ones, today we gather not in sorrow, but in celebration of a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a faith well-kept. Rollo Ross Evarts, 94, a cherished soul, called to the Lord's embrace on a day marked by the setting sun over Topeka, Kansas, left this earthly realm, but not our hearts.
Born on October 14th 1930, in the historic town of Dodge City, Kansas, To his father Ross Evarts and mother Lilly (Bryan). Rollo was a beacon of light from the outset. His life, a testament to the love he bore for his family, his country, and his God.
Rollo has now joined his parents, brothers Ellis, Ralph, Norman, sisters Daisy and Iona, and his beloved wife Dorothy, and a granddaughter Elisabeth in heaven.
As a young man, Rollo answered the call of duty with a heart as brave as they come, serving as an Army Paratrooper in the Korean War. His love for his country was matched only by his commitment to his brothers-in-arms, and he continued to serve with distinction in the Kansas Army National Guard 714th Maintenance Company for 20 years. His work with Goodyear earth mover tires was marked by the same dedication and excellence that he brought to every endeavor.
Rollo's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, and at the center of that tapestry was his beloved wife, Dorothy. He married his love and Georgia peach Dorothy (Lott) on April 18, 1957. Together, they journeyed through life's highs and lows, their love a shining example for their children, Linda Devine and her husband Jerry, Lora Florance and her husband Kevin, Phillip, Lovella Long, and David and his wife Tammy. Rollo's legacy is further enriched by the lives of his children, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren who carry with them his spirit of kindness and faith.
In the quiet moments, Rollo could be found in his garage, where he tinkered with the hands of a craftsman and the heart of an artist. The purr of his cherished 1929 Ford Model A was a sound that brought joy to many, particularly when he and Dorothy graced the town's parades, waving to the smiling faces that lined the streets.
Rollo was a man of faith, a true believer whose actions spoke louder than his words. He walked in the light of the Lord, and his life was a sermon of love, kindness, and compassion. To know Rollo was to know a man who embodied the spirit of Christ's teachings, and his departure leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide.
As we bid farewell to Rollo Ross Evarts, let us do so with joy in our hearts, for we know that he has found peace in the arms of our Savior. Let us remember him not with tears, but with smiles, for the love he shared and the life he led were gifts to us all.
We commend our brother Rollo to the Almighty, trusting in the promise of eternal life. May he rest in the glory of the Kingdom he so faithfully served, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. Amen
