Roger Arnold Lemke

Roger Arnold Lemke, 73, of Topeka died May 5th 2018 at the VA hospital in Topeka.

He was born May 31, 1944 in Fremont, Nebraska, the son of Arnold and Hilda Lemke. He grew up in Cedar Bluffs at the family farm. He was very active in 4H. He graduated junior college at St John's College in Winfield, KS and earned his bachelors degree at Dana College in Fremont, NE. He joined the Army and served as a Counter Intelligence Agent and instructor in Maryland. He was a contract driver for the US Mail Service in Topeka for over 20 years. His other jobs included being a teacher, security guard, milk man, professional mover, and a sales man including for Schwans Foods and World Book Encyclopedias.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Topeka and served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Council Grove and Emporia and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Roger loved spending time with family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was always smiling and loved telling stories at family gatherings and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He married Kathleen Stevens in Maryland in 1970. They later divorced. He married Sandra Winchell on Sept 16, 1994 in Topeka, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his daughter Christal Chapman and her husband Keith of Peculiar, MO; daughter Jennifer Siders and her husband Donald of Paola, KS; son Steven Lemke of Aiea, Hawaii; son Walter Winchell of Topeka; son Charlie Winchell and wife Mary of Topeka; daughter Tina Stevens of Topeka; daughter Jeannie Hansard and husband Sheon of Topeka; brother Keith Lemke and wife Donna of Ames, NE; sister Julie White and husband Marvin of Villisca, IA; sister Geanine Timme of Fremont, NE; sister Jeanille Gates and husband Gerald of Wahoo, NE; sister-in-law Elizabeth Lee of Topeka; sister-in-law Brenda Eubanks and husband Ted of Eudora; sister-in-law Beverly Beers of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a daughter Keren, and brother Delwin Lemke.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 10:30 am at Calvary Lutheran in Topeka. Family and friends visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Calvary Lutheran on the 26th.

Contributions may be made to the Roger Lemke Memorial Fund at CoreFirst Bank and Trust. Flowers may be sent to Calvary Lutheran Church.
