Robert J. Ybarra

d. November 14, 2020

Robert J. Ybarra, age 72 died on 04 November 20 at his home while battling cancer.

Mr. Ybarra was born in Emporia, KS and grew up in Topeka where he attended Hayden High School then joined the Marine Corps Reserves shortly after graduation. Mr. Ybarra spent 8yrs serving his country with a vast majority of his time at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA.

He loved sports, especially playing softball with his childhood friends well into his adult life. After his participation days were over, Uncle Bob enthusiastically attended his nephews' boxing matches, football games and wrestling matches.

Some of you know he was an avid Miami Dolphins football fan, but you are definitely aware that KU flowed in his veins! In addition to sports, he faithfully watched Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Lets Make a Deal with his family on a nightly basis. For certain, several of us have "picked up" a Lottery ticket for him here and there over the years!

Mr. Ybarra worked for the City of Topeka as a Procurement Officer where he would retire and live out the remainder of his years in Topeka.

He is survived by his wife Nancy and two sons, Christopher (Heather) and Jesse Ybarra, 4 grandchildren one great grandchild, niece Angela Plakio and grand-nephews Cayden Dominguez and Angelo Plakio. Niece Jamie Brown and grand-nephews Michael and Kylar Brown…. His cherished LARGE family and the friends who were "family" too!

He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Caroline Ybarra and his oldest son Jason Barnhart.

Arrangements are being made by Midwest Cremation Society and services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Monday November 16, 2020 at 10:00am. The family requests that you honor Bob by wearing something "KU" to his service.
