Robert W Hinton

August 28, 1939 — September 23, 2017

Robert W Hinton (Bob) passed away peacefully at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on September 23, 2017 from congestive heart failure. He also battled Alzheimer's and Multiple Myeloma. He leaves behind two children, Heidi Silverson and Scott Hinton, two grandchildren Isaac B. Silverson and Mabel Ranger Hinton, two sisters, Shirley Rigg and Sharon Reiter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eileen Hinton of Lane, Kansas and his beloved cats Julio, Prance and Sissy. Bob was born on August 28, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri and attended school there until his senior year when his family moved to Lane, Kansas. After high school Bob served in the United States Navy in San Diego, California, attended Emporia State University and also became a registered psychiatric nurse and retired from the VA in Topeka, KS. Before and after retirement he worked as a travel nurse in New Orleans and other places including Fairbanks, Alaska. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandson and "adopted" son Matt Lewis. He was an avid runner and completed several marathons over the years. Bob also enjoyed other sports including rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and KU basketball team. During retirement he enjoyed attending several fun runs with his daughter in the Lawrence in Kansas City Metro area. He also voiced his opinion by writing a barrage of letters to the editor of the Lawrence Journal World, which may still be googleable. He traveled to Juneau, Alaska for his son's college graduation in 2007. Lastly, Bob will be most remembered for his storytelling abilities and "Bobisms". He loved to talk and our favorite catchphrase of his was, "not do change the subject, but I will", mid-conversation. He will be missed. No services are planned at this time. Memorials may be sent to Heidi Silverson 17590 W. 163rd St., Olathe, KS 66062 and will go into a college fund for the grandchildren of Robert Hinton.
