Robert (Bob) Burton Oroke

August 29, 1939 — November 5, 2024

Robert (Bob) Burton Oroke passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2024, at his home with his loved ones by his side. As was his style…he left this world his way, under his terms, just how he wanted. He had celebrated his 85th birthday on August 29th, 2024, and was overjoyed with all the cards he received. Bob was a lifetime Topekan spending his early years in Oakland and graduating from Topeka High in 1957. His parents, Charles Kenneth and Ona Katherine and three siblings all spent their lives in Topeka.

In 2018, Bob celebrated 58 years of marriage with the love of his life, Sharon Ann Daniels. His pursuit of her was relentless and endearing after first seeing her at Gage Park pool. After several requests, she accepted his proposal on Valentines Day 1960. They were married September 25th that same year at First Baptist Church.

Bob dedicated over 4 decades to his career at Santa Fe Railroad. He started in the mailroom at age 17 and retired in 1997 as the Assistant Director of Computer Operations. He was highly regarded for his role moving the data center from SW Jackson to SW Quincy and the new space was aptly named the R. B. Oroke Computer Data Center.

Bob's survivors and his biggest fans include his children Ginger Oroke, Tim Oroke (Laura) and Kelly Pert (Greg). He was also deeply admired by his grandchildren Tanner (Amber) and Riley Reece, Mac (Paige), Wyatt (Beka) and Grayson Oroke, Shelby Day and Quinn and Carley Pert and great grandchildren Caden, Olivia, Kahrter and Attlas Oroke. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, parents, brother Deacon and infant grandson, Dillon Reece.

It was no secret that Bob's biggest passion was his family, his love of his kids and grandkids and rich family traditions. Countless celebrations and impromptu gatherings happened at his house. The door was always open although if KU, the Royals or Chiefs were playing, visiting might take a back seat to his aggressive armchair coaching.

He appreciated classic cars and enjoyed creating beautiful spaces in his yard with Sharon. Family vacations, boating and traveling also made the top of his list. In his retirement, Bob and Sharon took up golf. He didn't love the game as much as he loved passing time with many wonderful friends.

A celebration of life will take place on November 23rd at 2pm at The Foundry, 400 SW 33rd St.
