Robert Dean Nelson (Bob) died at the Stoneybrook Care Center, Manhattan, Kansas, on
October 18, 2022. Bob was born on August 20, 1944, to Martin and Eulah Nelson, Olsburg,
Kansas. He graduated from Blue Valley High School, Randolph. Following graduation, he
resided in Manhattan for a short time where he was a member of the Army Reserves. He
then moved to Topeka where he spent most of his adult life working for the Santa Fe Railroad
until his retirement.
Bob was an avid sports' fan who always enthusiastically followed his favorite teams: the
Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and all Kansas State University teams. He never
tired of discussing his favorite teams with friends. He loved to fish and never passed up a
chance to go fishing with a nephew or one of his many friends. He was an enthusiastic
collector of 1950's memorabilia.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Eulah Nelson and one brother in law,
Tony Sump. He is survived by his sister Marlene Beckman (H.C.) of Topeka, a sister Sharon
Sump of Manhattan, plus two nephews and three nieces. He is also survived by several great
nieces and nephews. Bob will certainly be missed by all.
There will be a private, family Celebration of Life held in his honor at a later date.
