Rita L. Melton, age 89, a long-time resident of Topeka, KS & Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's dementia.
Born on July 8, 1934, in Lyndon, KS., Rita was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to her loving, creative, and adventurous spirit, leaving an indelible mark on her family and friends.
Rita's professional life was dedicated to the medical field, where she served as a receptionist, an office manager and certified transcriptionist. Her work ethic and attention to detail were excellent and beneficial for the practices she worked with. Her ability to bring warmth and efficiency as well as her presence in the office was a source of both comfort and inspiration to patients and staff alike.
Rita was artistic & musically inclined, which was evident in her photography, appreciation of music and collection of art & antiques. Her creativity and interests were not just a hobby but a way of life. Rita's artistic legacy continues to live on through her works, cherished by all who were lucky enough to receive a piece of that creativity.
Travel and cruises were among Rita's favorite pastimes. She embraced the opportunity to visit places both new and old, always returning with stories of those travels with a deeper appreciation for the world's beauty. Her sense of adventure was inspiring for those looking for a new experience to create lasting memories.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony B. "Mark" Melton and is survived by her devoted family, including Richard Bradley "Brad" Jennings; her son, Kim Renee Jennings; her daughter, Cathy Diane Smith; her daughter, Christopher William Jennings; her son and his wife Connie, Brian Jon Jennings; her son, Scott Ian Jennings; her son, and blessed with 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, compassion, and adventure.
Her family takes solace in the knowledge that Rita's life was filled with laughter, love, and happiness. Her support and love for her family were her greatest gifts. The memories of that spirit will be treasured forever.
Rita's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, where her family and friends will gather to honor her memory and her vibrant spirit. The essence of who she was will continue to inspire those who knew her to live life to the fullest. As we say goodbye to Rita L. Melton, we hold close the words that best described her: loving, creative, and adventurous.
