Richard Loyd Agoney, known affectionately as Rick to his friends, Papa Bear to his family, and simply Dad to his beloved children, passed away peacefully on June 21st surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 16, 1957, in Plattsburgh, NY, Rick's journey through life was marked by his generous spirit, his infectious humor, and his unwavering friendliness to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Rick's early life in Plattsburgh laid the foundation for a man who would later be known for his dedication and service. After graduating from high school, he embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Army, where he served with honor as a Tank Commander and Cavalry Soldier. His commitment to his country was mirrored in his work ethic as a heavy equipment mechanic, a role in which he continued to showcase his skills and reliability until his well-deserved retirement.
Though his professional achievements were many, Rick's heart was always with his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, JoAn Agoney, and a loving father to his son, Gary Woodside, and daughters, Joline LaComb (Frankie) and Gina Rader (Darren) His role as a grandfather to Deana Howard (Joey) was one he cherished deeply, and the wisdom and joy he imparted to her will remain a guiding light in her life.
Rick's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He found solace in the tranquility of fishing and the beauty of the lake, which provided him with countless memories and stories to share. Shopping was not just a chore for Rick; it was an adventure that he tackled with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. Above all, spending time with family and friends was Rick's favorite pastime, and those moments spent together are now treasured memories for all who loved him.
Generous, funny, and friendly—these words encapsulate the essence of Rick's character. His laughter and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he met. Rick's legacy is one of love, service, and the simple joys of life, and it will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends for generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Rick, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and memories that will forever warm our hearts. Rest in peace, Rick, Dad, our dear Papa Bear, and friend.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on June 29th at 10 am at Banner Cemetery in Elmo Kansas. A lunch will follow immediately after the service at the Carlton City Building in Carlton KS. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Rick's fabulous life.
