Rex Scott, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and partner, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023, in Scranton, Kansas, at the age of 71. Born on August 2, 1951, in Council Grove, Kansas, Rex was a proud and hardworking man who loved his family and his community.
Rex is survived by his three children, Jake Scott, father of Emmi and Milli; Derek (Brittany) Scott, parents of Davy and Ellie; and his daughter, Allison Scott. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Stacy (Gareth) Dunkerley; his brother, Lyn (Marcos) Scott de Carvalho; his nieces, Brittany (Matt) Fox and Samantha (Pilo) Arredondo; many cousins and extended family; and his loving partner, Sunny Shade. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Evelyn Scott, and his sister, Teena Patterson.
Rex attended elementary school at Kelso before completing his education in Council Grove, graduating from Council Grove High School in 1969. He began working for Neosho Construction as a heavy machinery operator where he quickly became known for his skill and dedication to his work. After several years with Neosho, Rex ventured out on his own and established Scott Dozer Service, which he operated for over 30 years.
In his free time, Rex enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, great niece and nephews. He loved giving tractor rides, playing catch, and telling jokes. Rex spent many years going to rodeos, ball games, dance recitals and other activities to support his children's many interests.
Growing up on a farm led to a love of horses and country life. He enjoyed team roping and rodeo and was an avid storyteller. He could often be found entertaining friends, new and old, with stories and jokes. Rex and Sunny loved hosting barbecues with family and friends over the years.
Rex's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community members, but his memory will live on through the many lives he touched. His legacy of hard work and love for his family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Rex's life will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at the Scranton Community Building in Scranton, Kansas, where family and friends can come together to share their memories and honor the man he was.
