Rebecca Jane Brown

d. August 31, 2018

Rebecca Jane (Kerr) Brown of Baldwin City passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the age of 67. Rebecca "Becky" was born in Ohio, where she and her brother Bobby were adopted by Dr. Samuel Earl and Josephine Kerr. Becky went on to attend Baker University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Becky was introduced to Jesse "Bud" Brown while attending Baker University and they fell in love. They were married August 15, 1970 and enjoyed 43 years together.

Becky worked for the Vinland and Baldwin School Districts as a Teacher's Assistant, Breakfast/Lunch Attendant, and was currently working at the Bus & Transportation Department. In these positions with the School District, Becky was always willing to go the extra mile to make sure all were taken care of.

As well as the many organizations she was a part of, Becky had many hobbies including: traveling with Bud in the T-bucket, square dancing, team league bowling, quilting, stenciling, baking, putting puzzles together, spending time with friends, garage sales, and shopping for the ultimate deal.

Becky selflessly put her family, friends, and animals first. Even on the hottest of days, she enjoyed watching her children and later her grandchildren show their 4-H animals. As a devoted mother and grandma, family involvement was a way of life and included: Girl Scouts, school events, sporting events, 4-H Fairs, playing board games and Wii with the grand children, and most importantly updating everyone she saw about those life events. She would give to those that had nothing, and open her doors to anyone in need. She volunteered at the Social Service League Thrift Store for many years and made many friends. She did not know a stranger, and could usually win people over with her generosity and distinctive personality. Every day was a gift to her, and she was a woman of strength.

Survivors include her children: Amanda Croucher (Chris) of Osage City, Bonnie Walter (Andrew) of Manhattan, and Jesse Brown (Lisa) of Baldwin City, Josh Smith(Amber) Baldwin City, and four grandchildren: Garrett, Grace, Emily, and Ella. Becky was preceded in death by her brother (Bobby), parents (Samuel and Josephine), daughter (Jennifer Lynn), and her husband (Bud).

The Family asks that you join them for a Celebration of Life for Becky at The Lodge (502 Ames St.) in Baldwin City on Sunday, September 9th, 2018 from 2pm to 5pm. There will be a private inurnment for the family at a later date.
