Preston Wolfe Miller of Carbondale Kansas passed away October 7, 2016 at the age of 62 from cancer. He was born to Leland and Charlotte Miller on December 1, 1953, in Holton, Kansas.
Preston graduated from Seaman High School in 1971. He worked in construction before starting his own swimming pool company in 1988, Image Pools and Spas. He termed himself a "water shaper". He sold his company to Four Seasons Family Pools in 1995 and worked as their inventory manager. At the time of his death, Preston, was an energy auditor, with the Kansas Corporation Commission. Preston was in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1971-1977. He was also a member of Overbrook Ridgeway Masonic Lodge #62. Throughout his life he performed with multiple bands as a drummer, wash-boarder, guitarist, bass guitarist and vocalist.
Preston met Brenda Carter on a blind date in 1969, they married October 7, 1972. Preston passed on their 44th wedding anniversary with Brenda at his side. Preston is survived by his wife Brenda, sons Adrian (Stacey) of Topeka, and Jason (Erica) of Emporia. Their grandchildren Ryan, Hayden, John, Hannah, Paige, Hunter and Brylee also survive. His siblings include, Sylvia Hall of Herron, VA and Ginny Peters of Topeka, KS., along with several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend and a gifted musician. Preston played with several bands including: River Bottom Road Band, 8 Second Ride, High Caliber Band, Burlington Jamboree, Marvin Hoffman Band, Brad Hendrix & Shady Fellers, High Falutin' String Band, Bluegrass Gypsies, Borderline Band and Marc Houser Band. Pres and Brenda enjoyed the Winfield Blue Grass Festival for 42 consecutive years with a 100 of their closest friends.
Preston was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, James G. Wyatt
A celebratory gathering for Preston's life will be held Saturday October 15th at 2pm in the First Baptist Church in Topeka at 3033 SW MacVicar. We will gather after the service in the fellowship hall for an afternoon meal. Meat will be provided. Feel free to bring a side dish and a lawn chair. Musicians, please bring your instruments and be prepared to jam!
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the Helping Hands Humane Shelter of Topeka or the American Cancer Society.
