Porter T. (Pete) Herring passed-away March 6, 2018 at his home in Topeka, Ks. Pete grew up in coastal Southern California.

He won a surfing trophy and beat the drums like a maniac in a band - "The Newport Breed". Pete enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1969 and was honorably discharged in May 1975 from the 124th Signal Corps, 4th division, 6th Army. He was awarded expert with rifle, grenade, pistol and shotgun. He served in the Honor Guard at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey and graduated from Leadership Prep course at Fr. Ord, California. Pete was a Vietnam Veteran with the 221st Signal Corps at Long Binh.

He had his own drywall business in many states from 1975 to 2003, when he went to work for Kraft Foods.

Pete proposed to the love of his life Edie Brandenburg in 1990 on his birthday. He had returned from a drywall project at former President Harry Truman's winter home in Key West., Fl. His work partner, Denise Baker of Topeka, was also his Best Man at their wedding on March 21, 1991.

Cremation and memorial services to be announced by family at a later date.
