Phyllis L. Todd

Phyllis L. Todd, 101, of Topeka, Kansas died on April 24, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by family members.

Phyllis was born August 9, 1919, in Larned, Kansas, daughter of Walter Theodore (Ted) and

Edythe Luman Almquist.  She graduated from the College of Emporia with a bachelor's degree in 1971.  She was married to the Rev. Dr. David H. Todd on June 6, 1943 in Hutchinson, Kansas and they were married for 41 years.  They served Presbyterian churches in Pawhuska, OK, Parsons, KS, and Roeland Park, KS before moving to Topeka in 1974.

For more than 50 years, Phyllis was committed to women's concerns in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Topeka community.  Phyllis served as Program Coordinator for the Presbyterian Women's Triennial Gathering in 1970 held at Purdue University with the theme: What Time Is It?  She also coordinated the program for Church Women United, an ecumenical gathering, in 1977.  Phyllis was the 12th Moderator of the Presbytery of Northern Kansas in 1984.  She served as the Volunteer Coordinator at the YWCA in Topeka from 1984 - 1992.  As an active member at Trinity Presbyterian Church, she served on the Session, Visioning Committee, and led the Presbyterian Women's Bible Study for the Mary-Ruth Circle for many years.  Phyllis served on numerous Boards such as Habitat for Humanity, YWCA, Church Women United, Ecumenical Peace Fellowship, and United Presbyterian Women.  She was an active member of PEO for over 74 years.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1984. Survivors include: two daughters, the Rev. Dr. Judith Todd, Albuquerque, and Speech/Language Pathologist Nancy Clark, Kansas City; a son Dr. Timothy Todd, Lenexa; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
