Phillip Gregory Wallsmith

Phill Wallsmith passed away September 2, 2026, at his home in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on April 27, 1945 to James Joseph and Betty Louise (Mecham) Bomhoff in Wichita, KS. Phil can be remembered for a great multitude of things but what he should definitely be recognized for is the great love and devotion he exuberated as the husband of his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Jane) Morrissey. She was, as he put it, “the great love of (his) life.” He served as a wonderful life partner and caretaker for her throughout all of her days. Ultimately, the love that he gave to her was his truest legacy.

Phill was an extremely generous man and a jack of all trades. He was a wonderful cook, artist and master quilter! He even made his daughter’s wedding dress! He was known for always having his door open to help others, his kitchen in full swing to cook the most amazing meals for those whom he loved, and as a helping hand who would stop at nothing to lend support to those whom he knew needed it, even when that came at his own expense. He was a resilient, hard working, and creative mind who has left behind many memories of kindness.

Professionally, Phill served as the passionate and capable Executive Director at Valeo Behavioral Health Care, also known as “Stepping Stones,” or most currently as Astra Mental Health and Recovery for more than a decade.

He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jane, his brothers Michael, Thomas, and Robert Wallsmith, and Paul Bomhoff, and his sister Beverly Ann French.

He is survived by his three step-children Lori (Warren) Stewart, Jill (Bill) Klemz, and Billy (Susan) Wempe, his grandchildren Kelsey (Michael) Moston, Jacob Klemz, Ryan Klemz, and Makenzie Wempe, and two great grandchildren, Hunter and Colt-Riley Moston.
