Peggy Louise Bertels

Peggy Louise Bertels, age 71, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2026. She was born on August 6, 1955 in Nortonville, Kansas to the late Donald and Gladys Christie Bertels.

Peggy lived her entire life in the northeast Kansas area. She was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic School in Nortonville, KS. In 1973, she graduated from Jefferson County North High School. After graduation, Peggy worked for the State of Kansas for 20 years in various departments including Social Rehabilitation Services.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Justin Thompson. She is survived by seven siblings, Carol Hall (Fred), Overland Park, Kansas; David Bertels (Karen), Neodesha, Kansas; Tom Bertels (Karen), Lenexa, Kansas; Tony Bertels (Pam), Lenexa, Kansas; Lanie Fasulo (Joe), Olathe, Kansas; Lori Kleibohmer (Michael), Lawrence, Kansas; and Robb Bertels (Lisa), Oxnard, California. She is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews. Peggy loved all animals, especially her beloved pets, Sadie and Boots.

A private family service will be held at a later date with burial at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Nortonville, Kansas.
