Pearl Mae Graber

Mrs. Graber, 91, originally from Pretty Prairie, Kansas passed away on August 21, 2023 in Topeka, KS. In 1953, she graduated from Bethel College, North Newton, KS. Her parents were Bernard Graber from Montana and Bessie Stucky from Pretty Prairie. She had one sister, Lila, who resided in Canton, KS until her death in 2010. She had other siblings in Montana and Indiana. After graduation she travelled to Barranquitas, Puerto Rico where she worked as a house mother, English and Bible teacher at the Baptist Academy of Barranquitas until 1959. Subsequently, she became a High School English teacher until her retirement from the public school system. She played multiple musical instruments such as the organ, piano, accordion, marimba, and clarinet. In 1961 she married Luis A. Torres Rivera a US Army veteran and physical education teacher and settled in Puerto Rico. They had two children and subsequently grandsons. In 2017, after hurricane Maria they resettled in Topeka Kansas. She became a widow in December 2020, and remained under the care of her daughter until her death. She was a follower of the Lord and taught Sunday school at the Barranquitas Baptist Church and played her musical instruments at church for her entire life. May she rest in peace.
