Paul Lewis Schwartz

Paul Lewis Schwartz, age 82, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 8th, 2016.

Lewis was born August 13, 1933, the son of Paul and Evelyn Schwartz. Lewis married Verletta Hays on June 22, 1957. He graduated from East High in Wichita, KS in 1951 and was anEagle Scout. He went to work for KG&E immediately following high school and was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pipeline Division. He graduated in 1962 from Wichita State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for Kansas Gas& Electric Company (later Westar Energy) for 44 years. He was Division Line Supervisor in El Dorado, Kansas for 20 years, and then in the Engineering Department in Wichita and Topeka before his retirement in 1995. After retiring, Lewis and Verletta were volunteer missionaries with the North American Mission Board and Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists from 1997-2013. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. Lewis loved the Lord and shared about Him wherever he went. He and Verletta were active members of First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka, KS. He was a proud Shocker basketball fan and enjoyed woodworking. He always had a ready smile and dearly loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared his life are his loving wife of 58 years, Verletta; daughter Gale Nation (Vic), Topeka, KS; sons Paul Schwartz, Lees Summit, MO; and Todd Schwartz (Mellisa), Wichita, KS; and grandchildren Leslie Tremblay (Brian), Overland Park, KS; Eric Schellhorn, Evans, Colorado; Grant Schellhorn, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jesse Nation, San Antonio, TX; Haylee Schwartz and Blake Schwartz, Wichita, KS. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 10:30am at First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka, followed by a lunch for family and friends. There will be a private burial in Wichita, KS.
