Patrick William O'Mara

March 27, 1961 — June 5, 2024

Patrick William O'Mara, known as Pat to his loved ones, passed away on June 5, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and a renowned brownie recipe. Born on March 27, 1961, in Topeka, Kansas, Pat's life was a vibrant blend of family, humor, and an unwavering passion for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pat's early years were spent in Topeka, where he shared countless adventures and misadventures with his siblings. He was often seen with a newspaper in tow, delivering the news rain or shine. After graduating from Hayden High School in 1979, Pat took on the world with a hammer in hand and a smile that could light up any room. He became the go-to handyman in the neighborhood, the one you called when your porch was sagging, or your faucet was dripping. His professional life saw him making his mark at Santa Fe in building services.

Pat's heart was as big as his personality, and his family was the cornerstone of his world. He was a devoted father to Tim (and his wife Jennifer), Jamie Hysten (alongside Ty), and Michael, who each, in their own way, mirrored Pat's humor and warmth. His grandchildren, Kaden, Mila, Miles, Hunter, and Zoe were the apples of his eye.

His parents, William, and Dorothy (Boos) O'Mara, instilled in him the values of kindness and resilience, which he carried throughout his life. Pat's siblings—Mike (and Ronda), Angie (and JP), Kevin (and Julie), Danny (and Denise), Billy, Christy (and Howard), and Jean (and Justin)—can all attest to Pat's larger-than-life presence and his uncanny ability to turn even the simplest family gathering into an impromptu comedy show.

Outside of family, Pat's interests were as varied as his talents. His famous brownies or chocolate cake were the highlight of every potluck, and his love for biking was only surpassed by his passion for the Chiefs. Pat could often be found helping friends with various projects, always with a joke to make the work seem lighter.

And let's not forget the rock concerts in his front lawn, where Pat blasted Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Led Zeppelin at volumes that made the neighbors question whether they'd accidentally moved next to a music festival. He was a man who believed life was best lived with the volume turned up to eleven.

Generous, friendly, and spirited—these words encapsulate Pat's essence. He was the guy who'd give you the shirt off his back and then joke that you'd better rock it as well as he did. Pat never met a stranger he didn't treat like a friend. He had the rare gift of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room, and his laughter was a kind of music that made life's troubles seem a little less daunting.

To say Pat will be missed is an understatement. His absence will be felt at the weekly gatherings watching the Chiefs, in the scent of brownies wafting through the kitchen, and in the echoes of his laughter that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will be carried on in the stories told at family gatherings, the sweet taste of brownie indulgences, and every time a classic rock tune hits the radio.

So, here's to Pat—may the roads in heaven be perfect for biking, the brownies plentiful, and the rock 'n' roll eternal. Ride on, Pat, ride on and rock on.
