Patricia Ann Wild

June 15, 1928 — August 22, 2021

Patricia Ann (Radtke) Wild, age 93, died on August 22, 2021 in Topeka, Kansas after a short stay in hospice care.

Pat was born June 15, 1928 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Edwin H. and Lillian L. (Wilson) Radtke. She was one of two daughters.  Her older sister Aileen Mae (Radtke) Daily (Allen) of San Jose, California predeceased her in 2018. Pat married John F. Wild July 12, 1952 in Buffalo, New York.  They celebrated their 40th anniversary the year before John's death in April, 1993.  They had two daughters: Susan Carole Wild and Barbara Anne (Wild) Scofield (Robert) and one granddaughter Lynn Elizabeth Scofield, all of Topeka.   She is also survived by nieces and nephews and a church family who loved her.

Pat lived in Topeka for 19 years, joining her daughter Susan who has lived in Topeka since 1983.  For the previous 74 years Pat lived in Buffalo, NY.  She graduated with a BS and MS in Education from Buffalo State College in 1949 and 1969.  Pat taught art in elementary schools for over 25 years, returning to teach in 1966, as the Great Society programs funded an expansion of the arts in schools.

Pat was a 1950s feminist volunteering with the League of Women Voters and YWCA and a creative spirit who put her talents in drawing, design, calligraphy, and other artistic pursuits to use with children in the schools and in her church and volunteer work.

In Topeka she volunteered with the Topeka and Shawnee County Library Booktique, Mulvane Museum, Treasures of the Czars exhibitions, and Kansas Museum of History.  Pat was an active member of First Lutheran Church and the Lois Group of Women of the ELCA.  She provided leadership for Knit for Kids and created church bulletin boards for fifteen years.

Memorial services will be Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Topeka. Burial will take place in Buffalo, NY at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church and the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
