Patience M. Kirkwood

Patience M. Kirkwood, 91, passed away September 3, 2015. Pat was born in Rural Cherokee County, Kansas on May 30, 1924. She was the daughter of Pansy and Charles McFerron. She graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1941 and from St. John's School of Nursing in Joplin,Missouri in 1944. She was active in the nursing profession which she loved for 50 years. Pat worked in hospitals and for the State of Kansas for 30 years. After retirement she served in the U.S. Peace Corp as a nurse in the Commonwealth of Dominica. Pat enjoyed sewing, cooking, boating, dancing and spending time with her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Pat is survived by her son Chris and his wife Donna, and grandson Trevor Kirkwood, wife Megan Kirkwood and two great granddaughters Makenzie and Preslee Kirkwood, her son Tom Kirkwood and his wife, Susan and their daughters Amy and Sara Kirkwood.

A private graveside family service will be at Crocker Cemetery, South of Pittsburg,Kansas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Patience Mae Kirkwood Scholarship Fund and sent to: Kansas State Board of Nursing, 900 SW Jackson Street, Room 1051, Topeka, KS 66612-1230.
