Mildred M. (Hall) Knoblock of Topeka, Kansas, passed away February 1, 2018. She was born May 13, 1927 in LeRoy, Kansas to Joseph and Ruth (Johnson) Hall.
Mildred graduated from LeRoy High School in 1945. She went on to attend Emporia State Teacher's College and taught school for three years in Coffey County.
She was married to Eldon E. (Gene) Knoblock. Together they had two children, Sherry Jo Birtell and Dennis Lynn Knoblock.
She and her family moved from LeRoy to Marion, Kansas in 1957. Mildred worked many years for the Marion County School District as Secretary to the Superintendent and Clerk for the Board of Education. In 1968, Mildred and Gene moved to Topeka. There she worked two years for Jostens and then Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center. Mildred retired from Stormont in 1993 after over 21 years of employment.
Mildred married Virgil G. Armstrong in March of 1993. Mildred and Virgil enjoyed 18 winters in McAllen, Texas. She and Virgil spent many evenings dancing, 4 or 5 nights a week. Mildred loved to dance.
Mildred was a 70+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at the Osage City Senior Center sewing group. Mildred and Virgil moved from Osage City to Topeka in 2015.
Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband Gene in 1990, a great granddaughter Morgan in 2010, her son, Dennis in 2016, and a step great grandson.
Mildred is survived by her husband Virgil. She is also survived by a brother, James L. Hall, Hermitage, Missouri, her daughter, Sherry Jo Birtell, 5 grandchildren, Jay Birtell, Joni Simons, Jana Morales, Christopher Knoblock and Michael Knoblock, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 2 step daughters, Judy Solenberger and Anita Scarbrough, 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
A private celebration of life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice in c/o Mildred Knoblock, 3715 SW 29th Street, Suite #100, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
