Topeka, Kansas

Michael Wayne Schmidt passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on his 47th birthday.

Born in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Perry and Debby Schmidt, Michael was one of those people you simply didn’t forget. With his outgoing personality, quick sense of humor, unmistakable gravelly voice, and generous heart, he had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

But what truly made Michael special was the way he loved. He loved with his whole heart. Whether you were family or a friend, if Michael cared about you, you knew it. He gave generously of himself, valued the people in his life, and never held back when it came to showing his love.

Michael shared a special bond with his wife, Lindsey. Together, they enjoyed traveling, experiencing new places, and making memories along the way. Whether on an adventure or simply spending time together, Michael treasured the life and experiences they shared.

Michael had a particularly special place in his heart for kids. He genuinely wanted to be part of their lives, always interested in what they were doing and what mattered to them. He made it a priority to attend Kensi’s music concerts and cheer Brayden on at his baseball games. Being present for those moments wasn’t an obligation to Michael; it was something he truly loved.

His devotion to family was also evident in the care he provided for his parents, Perry and Debby. As their caregiver, Michael gave generously of his time and himself, helping care for them and making sure they were supported. It was another reflection of his giving nature and the depth of his love for his family.

A passionate Denver Broncos fan, Michael loved football and the memories that came with it. Some of his most treasured times were spent attending Broncos and Chiefs games with his cousins, enjoying the rivalry, laughter, and time together. He also loved music and the way a favorite song could bring people together. For Michael, the best experiences were always the ones shared with people he loved.

Michael’s big heart extended to his beloved pups, Kona and Pugsley. In a bittersweet twist, Kona followed Michael in passing just one day later. There is comfort in imagining the two of them reunited, continuing the companionship they shared in life.

Michael leaves behind his wife, Lindsey Schmidt; stepson, Brayden; stepdaughter, Kensi; his parents, Perry and Debby Schmidt; his brother, Mark Hendrickson, and sister-in-law, Julie; his niece, Grace; his nephew, Garet; and many cherished family members and friends.

Those who knew Michael will remember his laughter, that unforgettable gravelly voice, his generosity, and the way he could make an ordinary moment memorable. Most of all, they will remember how deeply he cared.

Michael’s time here was far too short, but the love he gave was immeasurable. His memory will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, the songs played, the football games watched, and the countless lives made better simply because he was part of them.

Michael loved with his whole heart, and he will be loved with ours forever.
