Michael "Mike" James Ottman

February 4, 1989 — May 22, 2023

Michael James Ottman, affectionately known as Mike to his family and friends, was born on February 4, 1989, in Topeka, Kansas, and passed away on May 22, 2023, in the same city. He was the beloved son of Bruce and Susan Ottman, and a cherished brother to Matt (Rachel) Ottman and Mark Ottman. Mike was also a loving grandson to Doris Ottman, nephew to Brenda Jarboe and Dr. Ray (Debra) Hoobler, and a doting uncle to Luke, Leah (Adam), and Lily Ottman.

Mike's early education took place at Topeka West High School, where he earned his GED. He furthered his studies at Washburn Technical School, obtaining certificates in Collision Repair and Engineering, Drafting and Design. Throughout his career, Mike held various food service and retail positions, always bringing his gentle and friendly nature to the workplace.

Known for his love of working with glass, Mike was a talented artist who created beautiful pieces that will be cherished by his loved ones. He also had a passion for walking his rescue dog, Cali, whom he adored. Mike's family believes that his previous rescue dogs, Carmel and Archie, greeted him at the Rainbow Bridge, a testament to his lifelong love and care for animals.

In his spare time, Mike enjoyed playing Pokemon Go, often during walks with his mother. These walks allowed him to combine his interests and spend quality time with his loved ones. Gentle, loving, and friendly are the words that best describe Mike, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, 7433 SW 29th St., Topeka, KS on Thursday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet visitors beginning at 10:00 am at the church on that day. The service will be livestreamed via the church website: Worship Online | Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church (swumc.org)

Memorial contributions may be sent to Susanna Wesley UMC or to Helping Hands Humane Society, Topeka, KS.

Though Mike's life was cut short, his memory will live on through the hearts and minds of his family and friends. His loving spirit and kind heart were evident in everything he did, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and creativity. The family encourages everyone to give your loved ones and friends a kind word and hug every day.

Rest in peace, Mike Ottman, and may you find joy and comfort in the loving arms of Jesus and in the company of grandparents and family who have greeted you as you entered your heavenly life.
