Michael "Mike" David Garrett

Michael David Garrett, 70, of Wakarusa, KS went to be with Jesus on May 15, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, KS.

Mike was born November 9, 1952, in Topeka, KS to Rex E. and Mary D. Garrett. He served in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1977. Mike married Denise Spatz on April 16, 1977, and they were blessed with two children, Brett Michael, and Jessica Denise. Mike retired from United Parcel Service (UPS) with 32 years as a tractor trailer feeder driver.

He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and family at "Garrett Lake." His greatest joy was watching his grandkids do their "things." From watching them excel in various sports; teaching the boys how to drive the tractor, fishing, riding four wheelers, roasting hotdogs and smores; and other life skills he felt they would need. Mike enjoyed planting a pumpkin patch every year so the grandkids and other family/friends could pick out their favorite pumpkins to carve. Mike and Denise enjoyed taking an occasional trip (AKA the "Death Marches" according to Mike) with his brothers and their wives, and many other things that made his life great.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Rex E. Garrett and his mother, Mary D. (Dyche) Haller. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Denise; their children Brett (Cherie) Garrett and Jessica Garrett Zeller; four grandchildren Brecken, Daxton, and Rhys Garrett and Hadley Zeller; and two brothers, Dennis (Susan) Garrett and Kevin (Donna) Garrett.

In lieu of a funeral, Mike has requested a Celebration of his Life picnic to be held later at Garrett Lake.
